WE FORGE
WORLDS
PIXEL BY PIXEL
Crimson Pixel Studios is an indie game development studio building puzzle games, open-world adventures, 2D platformers, and everything in between. Born from passion, fueled by determination, and forged in the fires of creativity.

ABOUT THE STUDIO
Crimson Pixel Studios isn't just another indie studio — it's a one-person forge of creativity, grit, and an unhealthy obsession with making games that actually matter. Founded by Johnathan Spence, we're here to prove that great games don't need a massive team — just massive heart.
Passion-Driven
Every game starts with a spark of genuine excitement. We build what we love, and we love what we build.
Crafted Quality
No shortcuts. Every pixel, every line of code, every mechanic is intentional and polished.
Community First
Our players are our partners. Your feedback shapes the worlds we build together.
Always Learning
From Full Sail to AI tools, we embrace every opportunity to level up our craft.
OUR GAMES
Five games. One developer. Zero quit. From emotion-powered dungeons to gravity-defying puzzles, from epic water adventures to pure arcade survival — here's what's cooking in the forge.

Cute and Catastrophe
Adorable meets apocalyptic.
Meet Puff — a tiny, plush-like hero with big sparkly eyes and even bigger courage. Puff awakens in a mysterious dungeon made entirely of crystallized emotions, where the walls literally feed on your feelings. Featuring the groundbreaking Emotional Architecture System, the dungeon reconstructs itself based on how you play. Every 5-10 minutes, a Catastrophe Event reshapes reality around you — crystal blooms, gravity fluxes, time echoes, and dimensional folds keep you on your toes. It's cute. It's chaotic. It's catastrophically fun.

Gravity Painter
Defy gravity. Paint your path.
What if you could paint gravity itself? In Gravity Painter, you navigate through mind-bending levels by painting localized gravity fields and switching your personal gravity direction to walk on walls, ceilings, and create impossible paths. With only 3 paint charges that persist for 10 seconds each, every stroke is a strategic decision. This is the first game ever to combine paintable localized gravity fields with four-directional personal gravity manipulation. Simple to learn, impossible to master — and absolutely gorgeous to watch in action.

Water Drop
One drop. One epic journey.
Follow Aqua, a sentient water droplet who falls from a mystical Cloud Kingdom and embarks on an epic journey through breathtaking environments — from forest canopies and mountain streams to underground caverns, human settlements, and the ocean depths. Built in Unreal Engine 5 with Nanite and Lumen technology, Water Drop features a State Transformation System where Aqua shifts between liquid, vapor, and ice forms to solve puzzles and overcome obstacles. It's a story about finding your purpose, the interconnectedness of all life, and the beautiful cycle of water itself.

Dot Dodge
Dodge or die.
Sometimes the simplest games are the most addictive. Dot Dodge strips gaming down to its purest form: you're a cube. Red dots fall from the sky. Dodge them. That's it. That's the whole game. But here's the thing — the speed increases, the patterns get nastier, and suddenly your 'easy little arcade game' has you white-knuckling your keyboard at 2 AM trying to beat your high score. Quick 2-5 minute sessions, pure skill-based gameplay, and a global leaderboard to prove you're the best dodger on the planet. Easy to learn. Brutally hard to master.

RoboBall
Roll fast. Score big. Never stop.
The game that started it all — reborn. The original RoboBall Infinity was built in just 24 hours back in 2019, only to be lost forever when a storm knocked out the power and corrupted every file. No backups. Lesson painfully learned. Now, RoboBall returns stronger than ever. Control a futuristic robotic ball racing through endless, procedurally generated tracks. Dodge obstacles across three lanes, collect coins, grab power-ups, and chase that high score. Seven unique power-ups, progressive difficulty that keeps you on edge, and cross-platform support from mobile to desktop. This time, we have backups.
MEET THE FOUNDER

Johnathan Spence
Founder & CEOGame developer, published author, Full Sail graduate, and the kind of person who builds five games at once "for practice." Johnathan's journey through game development reads like a boss fight — full of setbacks, power-ups, and the stubborn refusal to hit "Quit to Menu."
From losing his first game to a power outage, to navigating the AI revolution in art, to discovering that Claude AI is the debugging partner he never knew he needed — every challenge became fuel for the forge. Now he's channeling nearly a decade of experience into five games that range from adorable dungeon crawlers to gravity-defying puzzle platformers.

The Art And Science Of Game Development
Available on Kindle — Oct 29, 2025
View on AmazonFell headfirst into the game development rabbit hole. Watched one tutorial. Then another. Then twelve more. There was no going back.
Built 'RoboBall Infinity' in a single 24-hour coding marathon. Then a storm knocked out the power, corrupted every file, and taught the most expensive lesson in backup history. No backups. No mercy.
Pivoted to game art and design. Became genuinely good at it — then AI art exploded onto the scene and shook the entire creative world. Got discouraged, but never stopped creating. Adaptation is the name of the game.
Earned a Game Development Associate of Science from Full Sail University. Pro tip nobody mentioned: you should probably know the basics before you enroll. Learned that one the fun way. Still an incredible experience.
Published 'The Art And Science Of Game Development' on Kindle. First book. Real author energy. Available on Amazon for anyone brave enough to follow this path.
Discovered AI coding tools and everything changed. Claude AI became the debugging partner everyone deserves — not perfect (sometimes it confidently gets things wrong), but incredibly helpful for understanding why code breaks.
Enrolled in Thomas Brush's complete course library. Bought everything. Learned business strategy, aggressive marketing, financial planning, and the mindset needed to actually ship games — not just dream about them.
Launched Crimson Pixel Studios. Five games in active development. The forge is lit, the website is live, and the Kickstarter is coming. This is where the real adventure begins.
STUDIO NEWS
Crimson Pixel Studios is Officially Live!
After years of learning, building, failing, and getting back up — the studio is finally here. Five games in the forge, a Kickstarter on the horizon, and a website that actually exists. The dream is real.
Business & Marketing Deep Dive Complete
Finished an intensive study on financial planning, business structure, and aggressive marketing strategies. Making great games is only half the battle — people need to actually find them. Time to get loud.
First Book Published on Kindle
'The Art And Science Of Game Development' is now available on Amazon Kindle. Years of learning, experimenting, and occasionally breaking things in spectacular fashion — all distilled into one book.
